The memories, places, and people of youth eventually all seem to blend into one lucid dream filled with longing, love, angst, and idealism. The Dreamers make sense of their world through art and abstraction, juxtaposing vibrant recent memory with the nostalgia of a past life. From sublime landscapes and architecture to visual representations of time and wonder, these emerging artists from the Northeast will captivate you with the unique and ephemeral qualities of their works.
This special pop-up exhibition is presented by Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery in collaboration with Birdi Studios, the brand of PLCG assistant and up-and-coming artist, Ali Alberta. With the help of PLCG assistant and mixed-media artist, Hannah Mattogno, Alberta has curated a stunning collection of works by seven artists from New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts. The majority of these artists have graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts or art focused degree and are now working hard to not only actively keep up with their studio practices, but are also working to establish a living as the young adults of America- both of which can seem impossible at times. Alberta and Mattogno’s goal is to uplift undiscovered young artists and relish in the romanticization of their twenties. The exhibition is named after the Bernardo Bertolucci film, The Dreamers. The 2004 film set in Paris in 1968, "is a meditation on youth and art — the ways in which life and art become conflated, how art becomes a part of us, and how we, in our youthful idealism, transform those we love into art,”.
Please join us at Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery at 69 Maple St. in Center Sandwich on Saturday, September 2nd, from 5-7pm for the opening reception of Dreamers. Ali and Hannah are thrilled to introduce you to artists Rosellen Earl, Danielle Lorenzetti, Julia Mosso, Nicole Venezia, and GB West.
